Adventures in Ballard

My mom was here this weekend. We did our usual routine of organizing my closets. It sounds strange, and well, it is strange, but it is fanatically satisfying to transform a pile of clothes and mismatched shoes into color-coordinated and categorized compartments. Dressing for work this morning was utterly pleasing, I didn’t kick any shoes that couldn’t have the decency to find their mate, nor did I have to pull a pair of pants that fell from the ‘pants tower’ on the closet floor into the ‘dirty clothes hamper’ which was inconveniently placed next to it. Call me crazy, and you probably will, but it makes me happy to know that everything has a place and that I’m going to have an easy time finding it now. However, I hope that next time Mom comes to visit we can do some really fun and adventurous things, like go whale watching or something.

We did meet up with a couple of friends in Ballard yesterday and enjoyed some pints at my favorite bar there. On the happy hour menu, they have ‘fried pickles’ so we tried some of those, because we all did feel that living a life without tryign a fried pickle is simply not a life to live. Besides the initial shock of biting into crispy fried-ness and then a horrifyingly hot pickle, it was okay. Once the pickle innard cooled a bit, I was able to enjoy the thing, which was crispy on the outside and came with a dijon mustard dipping sauce. I had half a pickle in all, and that was enough for me. Still, there is a possibility that if I am pregnant someday, I may crave a deep fried pickle. Also, I enjoy conversations about deep friend things because people get pretty creative about it. Deep fried twinkies, candy bars, etc. What is the most interesting deep fried thing you have had?

We then went to Archie McPhees after ooo-ing and ahhh-ing over Eric’s gummy-bacon (strawberry flavored) and I think every present I ever get for anyone will have to be from there. It is awesome. I bought some toys for my office and then mom fell in love with a life sized mummy. She decided to buy it to place around in people’s chairs in the library. The mummy is quite creepy looking. Mom held on to him by the waist as we walked the 10 or so blocks back to the car and let me tell you, we got some really funny looks from people. It was pretty awesome. Mummy then rode in the backseat of my car and thankfully nothing happened because Mikey refused to put the seatbelt on him. He then scared my roommate, and sat in the pink chair for the night. I was quite frightened when I came down to look for my phone charger in the middle of the night and nearly tripped on him. Darn you, Mummy!
